I notice alot of people picking and recommending David Silva.

Now i'll admit, i have only seen the guy play a handfull of times, but i don't see what the fuss is about. He looks a bit lightweight to start with.

Then you have to account for the fact that he still hasn't played with his new team mates. There is also plenty of competition on the wings at City.

Players take time to bed in from other leagues, some of them never perform to their potential in the premier league due to the physical nature.

City have an away match at Spurs in their first game.

I know he's a world cup winner at a bargain basement price, but i can only see him getting 20 minutes at the end of that first game, if that.

In his case surely it's a case of wait and see, rather than picking him from the off.

Any opinions?

I'm with you, all the way. With the exception of Tevez, I'm not sure who in midfield or strike force is guaranteed to start for Man City. At the back, I think we can assume Given and I expect Kolarov (based upon Bridge performing poorly last season and during preseason) and Boateng (based upon his being better than the competition for right back) to lay claim to the outside back spots with reasonable quickness, although the former will do so earlier than the latter, I believe. And I don't know what to make of the center backs, other than Lescott still hasn't looked good, leaving Kompany and Toure (of the Kolo variety) as the "most experienced" pair, so I think, with maybe a few games in the season, we will be able to predict the back line with reasonable clarity.

But I'm not so sure Silva will start all the time or even all that regularly.

Oh - and he has a World Cup Winners medal, but he played a grand total of 69 minutes in 7 games, with 61 of those in the first game (remember: the only one Spain lost), so I'm not so sure he's first choice. Heck, I'm not so sure he's second choice, anymore. I think we can wait and grab him pre-update if he looks like he will settle in quickly.

I used to stay out late and try to walk the Muse home. Now I get up fresh-faced at 7 a.m. and take advantage of her while she's passing out.

According to Soccernet, Silva is 5'7", 148 lbs (1.7m, 67 kg)
Over the last four years in the Primera he's averaged 5.25 goals and 6 assists per season, averaging 29 games during this stretch (not counting Cups, etc)

I think he will be hit and miss this season. My guess is that he'll be better earlier than later.

I think it is best to wait for a few games before picking him as always new players don't really shines .

Played against Valencia in their final pre-season friendly and subbed off after 35min:

QUOTE
Thirty-five minutes in and a goal to the good, Mancini had seen enough of the clearly not match fit Tevez and Silva and the two – with little or no pre-season under their belts – made way for England duo Shaun Wright-Phillips and Adam Johnson.

I will probably stay away from him myself until he start getting regular runs in their side.

I strongly agree with these sentiments. Mancini himself has said that he'll be rotating his squad, and Silva is already going to be in for a rude awakening if he thinks he's going to get the same calls in the EPL that he got in La Liga. I don't see a quick adaption to England.

Add to the the fact that Silva hardly lit up the points in Yahoo Fantasy La Liga last season (though in his defense, very few mids not named Ronaldo actually do), and I'm not jumping blindly onto this bandwagon.
