New to this site and in my first post I ask you to rate my initial Fantasy Premier team. I'm focusing on the early fixtures picking players who have easy matches early on. With a January wild card this season I'm planning to use my regular wild card quite early to improve my team value. Big money is spent on two midfield powerhouses and trying to be smart with the rest of it.
Goalkeepers: First I thought I'd take Jääskeläinen and Carson as they are cheap and in start of the season one of them has a decent home match every week. Then Cech got injured so I'm thinking of going with Hilario and Carson. Defenders: Terry - Probably don't have to explain this one. Chelsea have an easy early season so he's a safe choise. Dawson - Apart from Man City @ gameweek 1 Spurs also have a decent set of fixtures early on. At 5,5mil I think he's well worth it. Figueroa - Costs only 4,5mil and there are strong rumours taking him to Liverpool where he'd be a starting LB. Good value for money even if stays at Wigan as out of their first 5 matches 4 are at home. Evans - With Rio out I'm hoping Evans will start and a starting ManU defender at 5,5mil is a good price. They have a pretty easy start to the season as well. Johnson, R - I think he's cheap enough at 5mil to take as cover. Birmingham play a solid defensive game and a regular starter like Johnson should rake up a decent point tally. Midfielders: Bale - a revelation at midfield last season and only bound to improve. A Spurs fan I know is raving about his performances in pre season matches so far so at 6,5mil he's a must buy imo. Modric - Had a very good season last time around but only totaled 3 goals and 3 assists so his points total wasn't as high as it could have been. I'm certain he'll improve on those numbers and could be one of the bargains of the season at 7,5mil. Spurs' easy start locked this one for me. Ferguson - For cover. A regular starter who gets a decent amount of bonus points. Fabregas - Expensive but Arsenal have an easy start after the Liverpool match and I expect Fab to deliver the goods IF he stays at Arsenal. Had a very strong last season getting almost a point/10min of play(better than Lampard). Lampard - Again expensive but should be a sure bet. Strikers: Agbonlahor - Villa too seem to have an easy start to the season and are usually a team who start well and then fade away. Gabby Agbonlahor himself seems to start strong every season so with easy fixtures early on I think he could be an excellent pick at 8,5mil. Rodallega - Again Wigan have 4/5 at home so he should get some goals. Decent price at 6,5mil imo. Carroll - A budget backup. Only 5mil and will probably get a decent amount of games. So Hilario/Carson Terry/Dawson/Figureoa/Evans/Johnson R Bale/Modric/Ferguson/Fabregas/Lampard Agbonlahor/Rodallega/Carroll Ok, rate away! |

As a Spurs fan, I'm not rating Modric as a FPL standout at 7.5m: yes, he may be involved in Spurs attacking buildup, but he's not a set-piece taker, which reduces his chances of creating assists.

QUOTE As a Spurs fan, I'm not rating Modric as a FPL standout at 7.5m: yes, he may be involved in Spurs attacking buildup, but he's not a set-piece taker, which reduces his chances of creating assists. But looking at Spurs' fixtures they have it easy and their first really tough match comes @ gameweek 10. Modric is a regular starting attacking mid and even if he's been good the past couple of seasons I think this one could be his real breakthrough to the world's elite. But Modric is something I'm still thinking about a bit. Also having 3 Spurs players might be risky, don't they have a CL qualifier as well during the first few gameweeks? |

They do, but it doesn't affect the Gameweek, unlike last season. -------------------- |

how about n'zogbia or M petrov at 6 mill instead of modric? and then change gabby to anelka who is only half a mill more. not a fan of carroll and i think newcastle will do well to avoid relegation with the squad they have. jerome at 6, C cole and k davies at 6.5 and doyle at 5.5 look like decent picks.
keep an eye on robbie keane at 5.5 coz if he gets a move then he'd be a steal This post has been edited by KillDevil: Jul 28 2010, 11:13 AM |

Thanks for your input guys. I don't really want to lose Gabby as I think he'll be one of the top scorers early on. Petrov is cheap but after gw3 Bolton have some really tough fixtures, still I'm now toying with the idea of including Anelka instead of Rodallega. Still tinkering a bit but atm it would look like this:
Carson/Robinson Terry/Evans/Figueroa/Dawson/Carr Bale/Petrov M/Ferguson/Fabregas/Lampard Agbonlahor/Anelka/Carroll So for most matches the team would look like this: Robinson Terry/Evans/Dawson/(Figueroa or Carr) Bale/Petrov/Fabregas/Lampard Agbonlahor/Anelka I'm really starting to like a look of this one |
