Fantastic. wink.gif You did better than that bloke at the Commonwealth Games who fell at the end.

How about an ultra marathon?

100 miles across a desert, or something stupid like that. biggrin.gif

thumbsup.gif Cheers I was happy it was over

Going to find something completely different I think. I'll continue to run a bit but I have had enough of this endurance stuff.

Maybe Kendo or something more physical

Tough Mudder?

Or you could take inspiration from your best mate(s) the Surgeon, and climb mountains. He did one every week. wink.gif

Tick and Tick thumbsup.gif

Had to get someone to fix my legs at 27k as I got cramp in both. Needed to fast walk for an hour to loosen them but managed to run the last 6 to get in under 5 hours which I am happy with.

5k to a marathon in a year... need to find a new challenge

that's awesome nm! clapping.gif

i've ran for almost 8 years now and i still haven't attempted a marathon. the main reason is because i wanna finish with decent time, like 4.5 hours or under. what was your time at the end? the fact that you finished within 5 hours is pretty damn amazing, considering that you didn't run the whole thing. i know some ppl who ran the whole thing for more than 5.

regarding you finding a new challenge, why don't you continue running, just longer distances?

Cheers,

4:30 would have been great and I understand wanting to train for that. It is tough though so I would recommend not trying to aim for a time as you will need the mental strength to get through it without thinking about trying to do it fast.

The thing with longer distances is that I did not find 5 hours of running fun. Halves are a good amount of running time but longer is very tough

that's why i haven't really went for it. one of these days i'll definitely do it. i agree, half marathons are a good distance. btw, some people transition from marathons to trail running and doing longer distances there? have you considered that? trail running is not all about running nonstop, it's a lot of stop and go. i've tried a bit but not in a race, cuz i've only trained with some friends who were going for a 60k race.

60km runs? They must be fugitives and running from the law. No sane person runs that far.

A FIVE kilometre run adds 30 minutes to your life but takes 40 minutes, health experts have confirmed.

After putting on running shoes, stretching and uploading all the details to multiple social media platforms are taken into account, the time taken to run five kilometres is closer to an hour.

Professor Henry Brubaker, from the Institute for Studies, said: “This makes the whole endeavour twice as ineffective.”

The confirmation that running is essentially futile has confirmed what everyone has been thinking.

Runner Tom Booker admitted: “I knew this **** was stupid. Every time I went running I thought about how I’d spend my extra half an hour, and then I’d get back and realise I could have just watched an episode of Luther instead.”

Professor Brubaker added: “Running is like growing your own vegetables. “

trail running is basically stop and go, cuz you can't possibly run the whole darn thing even if you wanted to. peak to trough can be a few thousand meters. the bits where it's uphill are not designed for running, you walk it, then during the flats, you run it and then for the downhill parts you run down with quick feet, almost hopping left and right. pretty fun actually.

the beauty of this is you don't need a group of people and a pitch to play. you can go running in the hills whenever you want.

Last week I heard on the radio that a glass of wine takes away 30 minutes of your life.
It probably does, as we can all feel the detrimental affects of alchohol. But really, how can they come to that conclusion?
For me, I exercise and watch what I eat for quality of life. It doesn't matter how long you live, just as you don't spend the end in pain or immobile and being a burden on others.

I understand the concept. It utilizes different muscles as the gradient isn't constant. Great for building up fitness.
But there's hillbillies in them thar hills, so it's pretty dangerous. You need to watch the movie, 'Deliverance'. biggrin.gif

If you can't find friends that want to play football, then you need to dump those friends and get new ones.

I keep forgetting the name so always Google 'duelling banjos'. They should just change the name of the movie.
